Working with the horses in an embodied way will take you into an exploration of your experience in the present moment. You can find a way of understanding the impact of your past without spending a lot of time and energy on interpreting and analysing it. The aim is to help you rewrite your story, not relive or reinforce it, so that you can flourish as the person you are meant to be.
Typical behaviour and belief patterns tend to manifest very quickly when working with the horses. Your impact on them is immediate and this helps you to understand what you think, believe and feel about yourself and how this affects those around you.
Horses respond so sensitively to the unspoken, that they help us to notice and name the subtleties of our own emotions and relationship dynamics. When healing from bereavement, grief or trauma, we don’t need to say what is sometimes unsayable for a horse to understand how we are.
“Through opening our hearts to the possible and by believing in ‘Why not me?’ our passion can then emerge, helping us to commit to our purpose. And when we are honest enough with ourselves to let go of what holds us to the past, including resentment and blame, then we can also find peace.”
Pam Billinge, The Spell of the Horse
