Rediscover the power of being
Who benefits from equine assisted therapy and learning?
You might come to work with us for all sorts of reasons and sometimes what you discover with the horses is not what you imagined you needed to learn – the horses have an ability to bring to our attention what needs to be seen. To the right of this page is a list of just some of the issues which can be addressed through the work →
Working with horses is particularly effective for young people where they can explore the challenges they have in life without the overt intervention and feedback from an adult, which can sometimes create unhelpful resistances. I work in partnership with Lindsay Fovargue, UKCP registered psychotherapist, and specialist in young persons mental health in this field (www.lindsayfovargue.com).
I also support organisations and individuals working within them on issues of change, leadership and personal development. For more information about this area of work please refer to www.equestpartnership.com.
What happens in equine assisted therapy?
You don’t need to have any experience of horses to benefit from Equine Assisted Therapy. It does not involve riding and consists of you interacting with the horses on the ground, under the guidance of your therapist. At your initial consultation we will discuss your needs and situation and I will recommend a programme for you. Because of the depth of the personal learning which can be experienced with the horses it is important for you to come for at least 6 sessions in the first instance, unless you are already in an established therapeutic process with another qualified practitioner. These sessions normally last for an hour and a half and take place fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs and how accessible our location is for you. Outdoor work with the horses is supported by indoor review and talking when this is required.
Workshops:
Sometimes I may organise workshops for small groups. Details of these can be found on our News and Events page.
What Do I Need To Bring?
Please wear suitable outdoors clothing including waterproofs, hat, gloves and sturdy boots or shoes. If it is sunny weather please bring sunscreen and also a sun hat and bottle of water.
